Adjusting PIM Query Message Interval for DR
IP multicast routers send PIM query "Hello" messages to determine which router is
the Designated Router (DR) for each LAN segment (subnetwork). The DR sends
Internet Group Management Protocol (IGMP) host query messages to all hosts on the
directly connected LAN. When PIM operates in sparse mode, the DR sends source
registration messages to the Rendezvous Point (RP).
The BSR sends a PIM router query message once every 30 seconds to other PIM
routers by default (if the PIM routing process is enabled). Use the
ip pim
query-interval command in Interface Configuration mode to adjust how often PIM
router query messages are sent to other PIM routers to control the DR process:

is the PIM query message interval in seconds.
Configuring the Type of PIM Packet Checksum
The default checksum type that a PIM packet uses is the complete IP packet length.
Use the
pim register-checksum command, in Router Configuration mode to change
the checksum type that is used to register a PIM packet:
MOT(config-pim)#
pim register-checksum [ new | old ]
where:
new uses only the IP and PIM Control Headers.
old uses the complete IP packet length.
Retrieving PIM Unicast Routes
Use the pim unicast-route-lookup command in Router Configuration mode to
retrieve PIM unicast routes from the BSR’s unicast routing table:

pim unicast-route-lookup
