Steering Lock
0 The electronic key can be
withdraw n in this position only.
The steering is locked with the
electronic key rem oved from the
steering lock. The electronic key
can be rem oved only with the
selector lever in position “ P” and
the foot o ff the brake pedal.
A fter rem oving the electronic
key o r with the electronic key in
steering lock position 0, the
selector lever is locked in
position “ P”.

wheel slightly to allow the
electronic key to be turned
clockw ise to position 1.)

If the electronic key is left in the
steering lock position 0 for an
extended period of time, it can no
longer be turned in the lock. In this
case, rem ove electronic key from
steering lock and reinsert.
W arning!
W hen leaving the vehicle
alw ays rem ove the electronic
key from the steering lock, and
lock the vehicle. Do not leave
children unattended in the ve
hicle, or with access to an un
locked vehicle. U nsupervised
use of vehicle equipm ent may
cause serious personal injury.
A w arning sounds w hen the
driver’s door is opened with the
electronic key in steering lock
position 1 o r 0.
W ith the engine at idle speed, the
charging rate of the alternator
(output) is limited.
It is therefore recom m ended to turn
off unnecessary electrical consum
ers w hile driving in stop-and-go
traffic. This precaution helps to
avoid draining o f the battery.
U nnecessary strain on the battery
and charging system m ay be m ini
m ized by turning o ff the follow ing
pow er consum ers, for exam ple:
Heated seats, rear w indow
defroster. In addition, the autom atic
clim ate air volum e control should
be set to the low est position.
The steering lock can only be
unlocked with the vehicle battery
properly connected.
C aution!
To prevent accelerated battery
discharge and a possible dead
battery, alw ays rem ove the
electronic key from the steering
lock.
Do not
leave the electronic
key in steering lock position 0.
