Battery
W arning!

instructions can result in

Never lean o ver batteries w hile
connecting, you m ight get
injured.
B attery fluid con tains sulfuric
acid. Do not allo w this fluid to
com e in contact w ith eyes,
skin or clothing. In case it
does, im m ediately flush
affected area w ith w a te r and
seek m edical help if
necessary.
A battery will also produce
hydrogen gas, w hich is
flam m able and explosive.
Keep flam es or sparks aw ay
from battery, avoid im proper
connection of ju m p er cables,
sm oking etc..
The m aintenance-free battery is
located in the trunk under the trunk
floor.
The service life of the battery is
dependent on its condition of
charge. The battery should always
be kept sufficiently charged, in
order to last an optim um length of
time.
Therefore, w e strongly recom
m end that you have the battery
charge checked freq u ently, and
corrected if necessary, esp e
cially if you use the vehicle less
than approxim ately 200 miles
(300 km) per m onth, m ostly for
short distance trips, or if it is not
used for long periods of tim e.
O nly charge a battery with a
battery charger after the battery
has been disconnected from the
vehicle electrical circuit.
A lw ays disconnect the battery
negative lead first and connect last.
W hen rem oving and connecting
the battery, alw ays m ake sure that
all electrical consum ers are off and
the electronic key is in steering
lock position 0. The battery and its
vent tube m ust alw ays be securely
installed w hen the car is in
operation.
W hile the engine is running the
battery term inal clam ps m ust not
be loosened or detached, o ther
w ise the generator and other
electronic com ponents would be
dam aged.

A fter reconnecting the battery also
resynchronize the Express feature
of the pow er w indow s (see

in Index).
B attery R ecycling
B atteries contain m aterials that can
harm the e nviro n m e nt with
im proper disposal.
Large 12 V o lt storage batteries
contain lead.
Recycling of batteries is the
preferred m ethod of disposal.
M any states require sellers of
batteries to accept old batteries for
recycling.
