C oolants
The engine coolant is a m ixture of
w ater and anticorrosion/antifreeze,
which provides:
• corrosion protection,
• freeze protection,
• boiling protection (by increasing
the boiling point).
The cooling system w as filled at
the factory with a co olan t providing
freeze protection to approx. -2 2 ° F
(-3 0 °C ) and corrosion protection.
The coolant solution m ust be used
year round to provide the n eces­
sary corrosion protection and in­
crease in the boil-over protection.
You should have it replaced every
3 years.
To provide the im portant corrosion
protection, the solution m ust be at
least 45% anticorrosion/antifreeze
(equals a freeze protection to
approx. -2 2 ° F J-30°C ]). If you use
a solution that is m ore than 55%
anticorrosion/antifreeze (freeze
protection to approx. -4 9 ° F
[-4 5 °C ]), the engine tem perature
will increase due to the lower
heat transfer capability of the
solution. Therefore, do not use
m ore than this am ount of anti­
corrosion/antifreeze.
If the coolant level is low, w ater
and MB anticorrosion/antifreeze
should be used to bring it up to the
proper level (have cooling system
checked for signs of leakage).
The w ater in the cooling system
m ust m eet m inim um requirem ents,
which are usually satisfied by
normal drinking water. If you are
not sure about the w ater quality,
consult your authorized M ercedes-
Benz dealer.
Anticorrosion/antifreeze
Y our vehicle contains a num ber of
alum inum parts. The use of a lu­
m inum com ponents in m otor
vehicle engines necessitates that
anticorrosion/antifreeze coolant
used in such engines be sp ecifi­
cally form ulated to protect the
alum inum parts. (Failure to use
such anticorrosion/antifreeze
coolant will result in a significantly
shortened service life.)

strongly recom m ended fo r use in
yo u r car: M ercedes-B enz A n tico r­
rosion/A ntifreeze Agent.
Before the start of the w inter
season (or once a ye ar in the hot
southern regions), you should have
the a nticorrosion/antifreeze
concentration checked. The
coolant is also regularly checked
each tim e you bring yo ur vehicle to
your authorized M ercedes-Benz
dealer for service.
