Brakes
W arning!
If you feel a sudden significant
vibration or ride disturbance,
or you suspect that possible
dam age to your vehicle has
occurred, you should turn on
the hazard flashers, carefully
slow dow n, and drive with
caution to an area w hich is a
safe d istance from the
roadw ay.
Inspect the tires and u nder the
vehicle fo r possible dam age. If
the vehicle or tires app ear
unsafe, have it tow ed to the
nearest M erced es-B en z or tire
dealer for repairs.
Pow er A ssistance
W arning!
W hen the engine is not
running, the brake and
steering system s are w ithout
pow er assistance. U nder these
circum stances, a m uch greater
effort is necessary to stop or
steer the vehicle.
W arning!
A fter driving in heavy rain for
som e tim e w ithout applying
the brakes or through w ater
deep enough to w et brake
com ponents, the first braking
action m ay be som ew hat
reduced and increased pedal
pressure may be necessary.
Be sure to m aintain a safe
distance from vehicles in
front.
Resting your foot on the brake
pedal will cause excessive and
prem ature w ear of the brake
pads.
It can also result in the brakes
overheating thereby sig nifi
cantly reducing th eir e ffective
ness. It m ay not be possible to
stop the car in sufficient tim e
to avoid an accident.
The condition of the parking brake
system is checked each tim e the
car is in the shop for the required
service.
If the parking brake is released and
the brake w arning lam p in the
instrum ent cluster stays on, the
brake fluid level in the reservoir is
too low.
Brake pad w ea r or a leak in the
system m ay be the reason for low
brake fluid in the reservoir.
Have the brake system inspected
at an authorized M ercedes-Benz
dealer im m ediately.
All checks and service w ork on the
brake system should be carried out
by an authorized M ercedes-B enz
dealer.
Install only brake pads and brake
fluid recom m ended by M ercedes-
Benz.
W arning!
If o th er than recom m ended
brake pads are installed, or
oth er than recom m ended
brake fluid is used, the braking
properties of the veh icle can
be degraded to an exten t that
safe braking is substantially
im paired. This could result in
an accident.
