is required by law in all 50 states
and all C anadian provinces.
Infants and sm all children should
be seated in an infant or child
restraint system properly secured
by a lap-shoulder belt, and that
com plies with U.S. Federal M otor
Vehicle Safety S tandard 213 and
C anadian M otor V ehicle Safety
Standard 213.1. A statem ent by
the child restraint m anufacturer of
com pliance with this standard can
be found on the instruction label on
the restraint and in the instruction
m anual provided with the restraint.
W hen using any infant or child
restraint system , be sure to ca re
fully read and follow all m anufac
tu re r’s instructions fo r installation
and use.

B abySm art™ com patible child
seat, w hich operates with the
B abySm art™ system installed
in the vehicle to deactivate the
passenger side front airbag
w hen it is properly installed.
O therw ise they will be struck
by the airbag when it inflates in
a crash. If this happens,
serious or fatal injury will
result.
T he back seat is the safest
place for children. Infants and
sm all children m ust ride in
back seats and be seated in an
infant or child restraint system ,
w hich is properly secured with
the veh ic le ’s seat belt, fully in
accordance with the seat
m a n ufactu rer’s instructions.
Infants and sm all children
should never share a seat belt
with another occupant. During
an accident, they could be
crushed betw een the occupant
and seat belt.
C hildren too big for child re
straint system s m ust ride in
back seats using regular seat
belts. Position shoulder belt
across chest and shoulder, not
face or neck. A b ooster seat is
n ecessary to achieve proper
belt p o sitioning for children
from 41 lbs. to the point where
a lap /sh o u ld er belt fits properly
w ith o u t one.
W hen the child restraint is not
in use, rem ove it from the car
or secure it w ith the seat belt
to p revent the child restraint
from becom ing a projectile in
the event of an accident.
U.S.A. M odels only:
Since 1986 all U.S. child restraints
com ply with U.S. regulations
w ithout the use of a te th er strap.
C anada M odels only:
T his vehicle is provided with
tether anchorages fo r a top tether
strap. C onsult your authorized
M ercedes-B enz dealer for instal
lation of these anchorages.
In com pliance with C anadian Motor
Vehicle Safety S tandard 210.1,
child restraint te th er anchorage
hardw are is attached to the tool kit
located in the trunk.
