Checking C oolant Level
To check the co olan t level, the
vehicle m ust be parked on level
ground and the engine stopped.
Check coolant level only when
coolant is cold.
Adding C oolant
If coolant has to be added, a
50/50 m ixture of w ater and
MB anticorrosion/antifreeze should
be added.
The drain plugs for the cooling
system are located on the right
side of the engine block and at the
bottom of the radiator.
A nticorrosion/antifreeze, see
C oolants
in Index.
W arning!
In order to avoid possibly
serious burns:
• Use extrem e caution when
opening the hood if there
are any signs of steam or
coolant leaking from the
cooling system , or if the
coolant tem perature gauge
indicates that the coolant is
overheated.
• Do not rem ove pressure
cap on coo lan t reservoir if
e ngine tem p eratu re is
above 194°F (90°C ). Allow
e ngine to cool dow n before
rem oving cap. T h e coolant
reservo ir con tains hot fluid
and is u nder pressure.
• Using a rag, slo w ly open
cap ap p ro xim ately 1/2 turn
to relieve excess pressure.
If opened im m ediately,
scalding hot fluid and
steam will be blow n out
u nder pressure.
• Do not spill antifreeze on
hot e ng in e parts. A ntifreeze
contains eth ylen e glycol
w hich m ay burn if it com es
into con tact w ith hot engine
parts.
