W inter Driving Instructions
The m ost im portant rule for
slippery o r icy roads is to drive
sensibly and to avoid abrupt a c
celeration, braking and steering
m aneuvers. Do not use the cruise
control system under such
conditions.
W hen the vehicle is in danger of
skidding, m ove selector lever to
position “ N” . Try to keep the
vehicle under control by corrective
steering action.
Road salts and chem icals can ad
versely affect braking efficiency.
Increased pedal force m ay becom e
necessary to produce the norm al
brake effect. W e therefore recom
mend depressing the brake pedal
p eriodically w hen traveling at
length on salt-strew n roads. This
can bring road salt im paired
braking e fficiency back to normal.
A prerequisite is, how ever, that this
is done w ithout endangering other
drivers on the road.
If the vehicle is parked after being
driven on salt treated roads, the
braking efficiency should be tested
as soon as possible after driving is
resumed while observing the safety
rules in the previous paragraph.
W arning!
If the vehicle becom es stuck in
snow , make sure that snow is
kept clear of the exhaust pipe
and from around the vehicle
w ith engine running.
O therw ise, deadly carbon
m onoxide (CO ) gases may
enter vehicle interior resulting
in unconsciousness and
death.
To assure sufficient fresh air
ventilation, open a w indow
slightly on the side of the car
that is out of the wind.
Deep W ater
C aution!
Do not drive through flooded areas
or w ater of unknow n depth.
If you m ust drive through deep
water, drive slow ly to prevent w ater
from entering the engine co m p art
m ent or being ingested by the air
intake, possibly causing dam age to
e lectrical com ponents or wiring, to
engine or transm ission that is not
covered by the M ercedes-Benz
Lim ited W arranty.

A lw ays fasten item s being
carried as securely as
possible.
In an accident, during hard
braking or sudden m aneuvers,
loose item s will be throw n
around inside the vehicle, and
cause injury to veh icle o ccu
pants unless the item s are
securely fastened in the
vehicle.
