4.5 RTU Installation
CAUTION
: ALL INSTALLATION AND OPERATIONAL CHECKS MUST BE
PERFORMED BY A QUALIFIED ELECTRICIAN. THE LOCAL
AUTHORITY HAVING JURISDICTION OVER THE PRODUCT SHOULD
INSPECT AND APPROVE THE INSTALLATION BEFORE IT IS PLACED
INTO OPERATION
CAUTION
: VERIFY SPAN AND SPAN CABLE WILL NOT CONTACT THE
RTU OR ANTENNA AS THE PIVOT ROTATES.
ATTENTION:
CONNECTING THE RTU TO POWER WITHOUT HAVING
CONNECTED THE ANTENNA CAN DESTROY THE RTU.
Requirements
1. FieldBOSS Version 8.01 or greater.
2. FieldBOSS Option Menu-Online Control set to Radio Communication.
3. FieldVISION Version 1.0.46 or greater.
4. Hop Pattern of this RTU must match the Hop Pattern of the Repeater or Base
RTU being communicated with. Factory default is Hop Pattern 2.
Installation
1. Mount the RTU mounting bracket as high as possible using an existing bolt on
the pivot.
2. Install the PVC antenna mast using the U-bolts provided.
3. Install the directional antenna using the hardware provided with the radome
(plastic element) on top.
4. If multiple RTUs are being installed in the same area for a cluster of remote
panels do not mount the antennas side by side. If multiple RTUs are installed in
the same area stack the antennas on top of each other on the same antenna
mast.
5. Install the RTU to the RTU mounting bracket as shown.
6. Connect the directional antenna to the RTU using a 12-1545-0 adaptor cable.
7. Verify Configuration Switch 4 is in the rightmost position.
8. Set Configuration Switches 1 to 3 to select hop pattern 0 to 7 (see diagram
below). If the RTU is transmitting to a Repeater the radio module on the
Repeater and the RTU must be on the same hop pattern. If the RTU is
transmitting to a Base the Base and RTU must be on the same hop pattern.
Factory Default is Hop Pattern 2.
9. If installing the RTU on a FieldBOSS panel, in the Options Menu for Online
Control set Communication to Radio.
10. Each RTU has a unique Device ID consisting of 8 characters (numbers 0-9
and letters A-F). The RTUs Device ID is labeled inside the RTU. Record hop
pattern and device ID for RTU
