Spread Spectrum Installation Guide
Installation
1. PVC pipe and electrical cable for the 120 VAC wiring is dealer supplied.
2. The mounting bracket for the power supply and Repeater can be installed in several
different positions. Hardware is provided to mount it horizontally as shown, to a vertical
pole or it may be bolted down.
3. For maximum range, mount the repeater as high as possible. If a 12-0428-0 omni
directional antenna is used it should be mounted to the top of the mast. Use the largest
allowable vertical separation between the 12-0428-0 antenna and any directional
antennas. Directional antennas are not affected by metal structures and can be
mounted directly to them.
4. For maximum range, the 12-0428-0 omni antenna should be 2 feet away
(horizontally) from metal structures. The Example Mounting Configuration diagram
shows PVC pipe used to build an antenna mast 2 feet away from metal structures.
Paint PVC masts with water based latex paint to protect them from UV light.
5. The Repeater consists of two radio modules (left and right). Data received on the
left radio is re-transmitted on the right. Data received on the right radio is re-transmitted
on the left.
6. Configuration Switches are used to select the hop pattern (channel) for each radio
module.
7. The hop pattern for the left and right radio module must be set using the
configuration switches. Each radio module can only receive data transmitted on the
same hop pattern.
8. The left and right radio modules cannot have the same hop pattern.
9. Wire the Repeater Power Supply to 120 VAC as shown.
10. Orient the Repeater Power Supply Enclosure as shown (cord connects down to
protect them from water).
11. Place drip loops on all cables.
12. Verify that the Power LED is ON when power is applied.
13. Record hop pattern, antenna type and antenna direction for the left and right radio
module.
