Spread Spectrum Installation Guide
Maps made with Google Earth can be saved to a file that anyone with Google Earth can
open. An accurate map is needed to determine the distance between transmitters and
will also aid in orienting antennas. The map should contain all pivots that will have RTUs
installed, the Bridge and Base RTU and Repeaters. Repeaters require 120 VAC to
power their external 12 VDC power supply. To maximize their effectiveness Repeaters
should be mounted as high as possible
4.2 Build Order
The FieldNET Ordering and Pricing Instructions provide step by step directions for
ordering a FieldNET system
.
The design examples in Appendix A demonstrate what
hardware is required for different situations.
4.3 Bridge and Base RTU Installation
The Base RTU links all other RTUs and Repeaters to the Bridge. A table top stand is
provided in the Base RTU installation kit or the Base RTU may be mounted to a wall
using the two 5/16” mounting holes on the RTU enclosure. The Base RTU installation
kit includes a short range whip antenna.
Setup the FieldNET Bridge in an office type environment. By setting up the Bridge,
Base RTU and Repeater first you will be able to test that all other components are able
to communicate with the Bridge.
1. Set the hop pattern on the Base RTU with the 4 configuration switches. Switch 4
must be in the left "ON" position to configure the RTU as a Base. The positions for
configuration switches 1-3 to select RTU hop patterns 0 to 7 are shown in the diagram
below the RTU. All RTUs and Repeaters that the Base RTU is to communicate with
must be on the same hop pattern.
2. Connect the antenna to the FieldNET RTU.
Do not power up the RTU without an
antenna, damage can result.
3. Connect the Ethernet cable to the Ethernet port on the Bridge and the Ethernet port
on Internet source.
4. Follow the Bridge installation instructions 13-8998-0 (also listed in appendix H).
5. For increased reliability plug the Bridge power supply into a UPS (Uninterruptible
Power Supply, not supplied).
6. Push "POWER" button on front of Bridge. When turned on the button is illuminated
in blue.
7. Verify Power LED on FieldNET Base RTU is ON when the Bridge is powered
