Inspection and servicing
1. The dust explosion protection strongly depends on the local conditions; therefore, the equipment
used in areas potentially subject to dust explosion must be inspected and serviced regularly.
Due to their thermal insulation, thick dust layers lead to a temperature increase on the surface of
the device. Therefore, dust deposits on the encoder should be avoided as much as possible
through a suitable installation and ongoing maintenance.
2. As a general rule, a device that needs to be opened for servicing may only be opened by trained
personnel of the manufacturer. When dismounting, care must be taken not to damage the parts
necessary for the tightness of the housing.
3. If damages appear on the device, in particular on seals, the device must be replaced immediately.
Repair work at the device itself may only be performed by the manufacturer of the device.
Qualification of the personnel
1. The inspection, maintenance and repair of electrical equipment in areas potentially subject to dust
explosion may only be performed by specialized personnel, having knowledge about the concept
of ignition protection category.
