Screw-On Optical Connector
This section applies to power meter ports with large area detectors
and screw-on interchangeable optical adaptors.
This port can be used with both PC and APC connector styles
To access the optical connector, grasp the grey cover on the top of
the instrument and tilt it back. The cover can then be pushed back to
form a convenient tilt bail for the instrument.
To remove the fitted adaptor, simply unscrew it. The user can easily
fit different styles of standard and optional connector adaptors.
To fit a new adaptor, just screw it onto the detector head. Do not use
excessive force.
Ge7 detectors only: When fitting an MPO connector adaptor, continue
turning the adaptor
clockwise until a “click” is felt
. At this point, the
adaptor is rotationally aligned with the rectangular optical detector.
Always clean the mating connector tip and ferrule before mating, using
approved materials.
These meters can be used with low-precision bare fiber adaptors.
CAUTION!
Be careful of the optical detector when the connector
adaptor is removed. It can be damaged by static electricity, or damage
to the exposed detector cover glass.
CAUTION!
Ensure that inserted connectors or bare fibers do not
project through the adaptor and scratch or push on the glass detector
cover or instrument damage will occur.
To Clean The Optical Connectors
The power meter interface does not contact the inserted connector;
there is a slight air gap. Therefore, it will not wear and only needs
occasional cleaning. To clean:

Unscrew the connector adaptor, then use a soft brush, alcohol,
air can,
or ‘Blu Tac‘
to clean the glass interface, and inspect
for cleanliness.
