Read IL (in dB R mode) of the respective
λ
displayed on
instrument.

Turn the second patch lead around and repeat the test for the
other connector.
You have now measured the insertion loss of each end of your second
patch lead, against the first patch lead.
•
For reference grade connectors, A test-quality lead should
typically have a loss of <0.3 dB per end for MM fiber, and 0.5
dB for SM fiber, also including MPO types etc.
If a variety of test leads pass this test, you can proceed to testing a
system. If they all seem to fail, you should also consider that your first
reference lead could be causing the problem.
