Getting Started & Turning On
This section is helpful when getting started and, gives basic instrument
operation.
For your later reference, please note the convenient Quick Reference
Guide at the back of this manual.
Please also note sections “Care of
Your Instrument” and “General Safety Summary”.
To add a carry strap, slip the end of a strap through the eyes on the
sides of the instrument, and secure the buckle.
Install the batteries or plug in a computer / external power pack via the
micro-USB connector
, marked “DC
-PWR-
IN”
. The large USB-A
connector is not a power input.
The
instrument’s
optical connector is protected by a dust cover, which
also serves as a tilt bail. To access the optical connectors, grasp the
grey cover on the top of the instrument, pull it up, then and tilt it back
and down to form a tilt bail.
Turn On The Instrument
To turn on the instrument, press [On/Off] (square green button above
the LCD). To preserve the batteries, the instrument will turn off after
10 minutes of inactivity.
If the instrument does not respond, change the batteries or apply
external power to the micro USB connector, or refer to the end of this
section to perform a hard re-start.
The battery condition is indicated with the battery symbol
on the display.
The initial instrument display shows the date and time.

set date and time, or continue:

To disable auto-off, hold down

for 3 sec

To enter Slow Mode, hold down

To turn off the instrument, press
On/Off
again.
At start up, if the instrument needs time and date to be entered, the
“setting time and date” screen
will appear, refer to manual section for
details.
