Next lift the folded stairstep that is just below
the door handle. Ensure the safety lock is in
position around the diaphragm shaft when the
handle is in the locked position.
To obser ve this area, depress a red switch
near the window that illuminates a lamp in-
side the door. If the ar m is properly posi-
tioned around the shaft, proceed to check
the indication in each of the visual inspec-
tion por ts located near each cor ner of the
door (see Figure 1-7). Ensure the green stripe
on the latch bolt is aligned with the black
pointer in the visual inspection por t.
Never attempt to unlock or check
the security of the door in flight. If
the CABIN DOOR annunciator il-
luminates in flight, or if the pilot
has any reason to suspect that the
door may not be securely locked,

crewmember should check the se-
curity of the airstair door.
EMERGENCY EXIT
The emergency exit door is located at the
third cabin window on the right side of the
fuselage (see Figure 1-7). A placard at the
window gives instr uctions for access to the
release mechanism.
The door is released from the inside with
two hooks, a trigger button, and a latch-re-
lease pull-up handle. A placard on the emer-
gency exit hatch release cover lists proper
opening procedures.
A pressure lock prevents the door from being
o p e n e d wh e n t h e c a b i n i s p r e s s u r i z e d . I f
pressurized, pulling the hooks over rides the
pressure lock and allows the trigger button
to be depressed. This releases the latch-re-
lease handle. When the handle is pulled up
and the securing latches are released, a hinge
at the bottom allows the hatch to swing out-
ward and downward for emergency exit.
