Pneumatics
C h a p t e r 9 — “ P n e u m a t i c s ” p r e s e n t s a d i s -
cussion of pneumatic and vacuum systems.
Sources and operation of pneumatic and vac-
uum air are described. Acceptable gage read-
i n g s a n d n o r m a l a n d a b n o r m a l s y s t e m
indications are outlined.
Ice and Rain Protection
Chapter 10—“Ice and Rain Protection” pre-
s e n t s a d e s c r i p t i o n a n d d i s c u s s i o n o f t h e
anti-ice and deice systems. All of the anti-
ice, deice, and rain protection systems in
this air plane are described, showing loca-
tion, controls, and how they are used. The
pur pose of this chapter is to acquaint the
pilot with all the systems available for flight
in icing or heavy rain conditions and their
controls. Procedures in case of malfunction
in any s y s te m a re i n c lu d ed . Th is a l s o i n -
cludes information concerning preflight de-
icing and defrosting.
Air Conditioning
Chapter 11—“Air Conditioning” presents a
description of the air-conditioning, heat-
ing, and fresh air systems. Each subsystem
d i s c u s s i o n i n c l u d e s g e n e r a l d e s c r i p t i o n ,
principle of operation, controls, and emer-
gency procedures.
Pressurization System
Chapter 12—“Pressurization” presents a de-
scription of the pressurization system. The
function of various major components, their
physical location, and operation of the pres-
surization system controls are discussed.
Where necessary, references are made to the
environmental system as it affects pressur-
ization.
Landing Gear and Brakes
C h a p t e r 1 4 — “ L a n d i n g G e a r a n d B r a ke s ”
presents a description and discussion of the
landing gear system, landing gear controls,
and operating limitations. The indicator sys-
tem and emergency landing gear extension
are also described.
This chapter also discusses the wheel brake
system. Cor rect use of the brakes and park-
i n g b r a k e s , a l o n g w i t h b r a k e s y s t e m d e -
s c r i p t i o n , a n d w h a t t o l o o k f o r w h e n
inspecting brakes are detailed.
Flight Controls
Chapter 15—“Flight Controls” describes the
f o u r - s e g m e n t Fow l e r - t y p e f l a p s y s t e m .
S y s t e m c o n t r o l s a n d l i m i t a t i o n s a r e c o n -
sidered, with reference to operation as out-
lined in the
Pilot’s Operating Handbook
.
This chapter also describes the rudder boost
system. This system is designed to reduce
p i l o t e ff o r t i f s i n g l e - e n g i n e f l i g h t i s e n -
countered.
