Working with Battery
Before Using Battery
To Maximize Battery Life
•
If AC power is continuously available, remove the battery and connect the
instrument to the AC power line.
•
If AC power is not continuously available, use the battery. Check the charge
level indicator on the instrument front panel. If it shows low charge level,
“Charging Battery” on page 271
.
•
If the instrument is not going to be used for more than a week, remove the
battery. Best practice is to store the battery with a charge of 50 % to 80 %.
Batteries that remain idle eventually lose their ability to hold a charge.
•
Allow a battery to warm to room temperature before charging it. Temperature
shock can damage the battery chemistry and in some cases cause a short
circuit.
•
Store batteries in a cool, dry, and low dust location, away from metal objects
and corrosive gases.
•
Operate the instrument on battery power in the temperature range 0
C to
45
C. Using the battery at lower or higher temperatures can damage it and
reduce operating life. Cold temperatures affect battery chemistry, reducing
charge capacity, especially below 0
C.
Battery Charge Level Indicator
The battery charge level indicator is
placed on the instrument front panel.
It shows the charge level as shown in
this figure.
Battery Care
Visually inspect the battery periodically for signs of degradation, such as swelling,
cracking of the battery shell, or leakage of fluid. If degradation occurs, replace the
battery and dispose of it properly. Operation with a degraded battery could result
in damage to the instrument. Also see
