Adjusting the Oscilloscope
This section explains how to adjust the oscilloscope so that it is at
optimum operating performance. You should perform the hardware
adjustments and Self Cal periodically as indicated in this section.
•
Perform hardware adjustments at 12 months or 2,000 hours of
operation.
•
Perform Self Cal at 6 months or 1000 hours of operation, or if
ambient temperature is greater than 10
°
C from the calibration
temperature, or if the user wants to maximize the measurement
accuracy.
The amount of use, environmental conditions, and your past
experience with other instruments can help you determine if you need
a shorter adjustment interval. Make sure you allow the oscilloscope to
warm up for at least 30 minutes before you start the adjustments.
W A R N I N G
The maintenance described in this section is performed with power supplied
to the oscilloscope and with the protective covers removed. Only trained
service personnel who are aware of the hazards involved should perform the
maintenance. Whenever possible, perform the procedures with the power
cord removed from the oscilloscope.
Read the safety summary at the back
of this book before proceeding.
C A U T I O N
Do not disconnect any cables or remove any assemblies with the power
applied to the oscilloscope, or damage to the oscilloscope can occur.
C A U T I O N
Do not operate the oscilloscope, with its cover removed, without using an
external fan. Air flow over the samplers is reduced which leads to operating
temperatures that are higher than normal. The fan should blow air across the
system PC board where the heat sinks are located.
C A U T I O N
ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE (ESD) can damage electronic components.
When using any of the procedures in this chapter you should use proper ESD
precautions. As a minimum, you should place the instrument on a properly
grounded ESD mat and wear a properly grounded ESD strap.
