Operation
5. With the charge pump activated, check the
water flow at the stuffing boxes. A steady
stream of water should be flowing to cool and
lubricate the packing. Adjust the metering
valves if necessary.
6. Start the auxiliary engine and set the THROT-
TLE MANUAL/AUTOMATIC toggle switch to
MANUAL. Use the speed control buttons to
raise the engine speed to maximum operating
speed (2350 RPM).
7. Make sure all personnel are well clear of the
blasting head and turn the DUMP VALVE 40K
switch ON to send high pressure water to the
spray bar.
8. Check the nozzle spray pattern and the spray
bar weep holes for leaks.
9.
Check all high pressure hose fittings and the
Hog Head for leaks.
10. Turn the HEAD ROTATION switch ON. Rotate
the HEAD ROTATION speed dial clockwise to
test the spray bar rotation and set the desired
rotation speed, then turn the HEAD ROTATION
SWITCH OFF.
11.
If necessary, adjust auxiliary engine speed to
achieve the desired blasting pressure. Monitor
the digital HIGH PRESSURE gauge in the panel
to set the pressure. Note the engine RPM for
the desired pressure for reference.
12. With the pressure set and the spray bar and
nozzles working properly, turn the DUMP
VALVE 40K switch OFF so no pressure is sup-
plied to the blasting head.
13. Lower the blasting head to the pavement,
then turn the FLOAT SWITCH ON to engage
Float Mode.
3.6 Auxiliary Engine
Throttle Control Modes
The operator can use the THROTTLE MANUAL/
AUTOMATIC toggle switch in the auxiliary engine
controller to select either MANUAL mode, which
allows the operator to set a constant auxiliary
engine operating RPM for the desired pressure,
or AUTOMATIC mode, which automatically drops
engine RPM to idle when the DUMP VALVE switch is
turned OFF and advances engine RPM to the preset
operating speed when the DUMP VALVE switch
is ON. In automatic mode, the Hydro-Throttle
Auxiliary Engine Controller, THROTTLE MANUAL/AUTOMATIC
Toggle Switch, & Speed Control Buttons
Hydro-Throttle Electronic Controller/Pressure Sensor
electronic controller on the UHP pump manifold
monitors pressure to the blasting head and sends
a signal to the engine controller to automatically
advance engine speed when high pressure is
supplied to the blasting head or decrease engine
speed to idle when the high pressure to the blast-
ing head stops.
