Introduction
Your system has been configured for the Pentium II Xeon or Pentium III
Xeon processor. However, the system can be enhanced with various options
to meet your future needs, such as installing up to three additional
processors. This chapter contains procedures that assist you in installing
some of these options.
Processors
Your system supports up to three additional processors to further enhance
system performance. CPU Upgrade kits, which provide all of the
components that you need to install an additional processor, are readily
available from Gateway.
Replacing the processor
The system is compatible with Intel Pentium II Xeon and Pentium III Xeon
processors. You can either upgrade the existing Pentium II Xeon processor
or install up to three more processors of the same speed and cache size as
the first processor.
When replacing a processor, order a processor upgrade kit. The kit includes
the upgrade processor, a heat sink, and latches.
It is critical that a heat sink be installed on each processor. The Pentium
family of processors may overheat and fail if not cooled sufficiently. The
heat sink provided with the processor in the system provides all necessary
cooling for the processor.

the sources listed in the Assistance Resources document shipped with the
server.

Turn off the system and disconnect all the power cords.

Note:
If the server has less than
four processors and you
are adding one, then you
must remove the
termination board assembly
from the next Slot 2
connector before you install
the new processor. If you
plan to reduce the number
of processors in your
system, then you must
replace a processor with a
termination board
assembly.
