Replacing (hot-swapping) a drive.
The RAID cage incorporates SCA-2 technology that allows you to remove
and replace a SCSI hard drive from the RAID cage without powering down
the drawer. Check the operating system and RAID controller
documentation for software procedures that may be required before you
attempt to hot-swap a RAID drive.
1. Remove the replacement drive from its shipping carton and inspect it
carefully.
2. Record the SCSI ID number of the drive you are replacing.
3. Select the matching SCSI ID Number Label (provided with the new
drive) and affix it to the front of the new device.

If replacing the failed drive while the system is running, place the
failed drive off-line first. This may be accomplished automatically if
your system is set up for enhanced RAID level 5 operation. Otherwise,
you must run the software.
5. Unlock the failed drive using the key provided with the RAID cage.
6.
Remove the failed drive by pinching the projections on the handle and
rotating the handle downwards.
7. Pull the failed drive out of the RAID cage.
8.
Install the new drive as described in “Installing the drives” on page 74.
9.
Use the software to notify the controller that the new drive is ready and
to begin rebuilding the RAID on the new drive.

grounded, or static
electricity may damage the
device.
Note:
The ID for the replacement
drive is set automatically
when the drive is installed
in the slot of the failed drive.
