When the cartridge meets resistance, push the two tabs toward each
other until the processor is fully seated. See the illustration Installing a
Processor above.
13. With the bracket in an open position (perpendicular to the front of the
retention module), rotate the bracket down until it reaches the
retention module. With your thumb on the face of the bracket and your
index finger around the tab at the right of the bracket, slightly pull the
tab upward and to the left to open the latch at the back of the tab.
As you open the latch on the back of the tab, slide the right edge of the
bracket onto the retention module and release the tab. The bracket
latches securely.

Close the case, as described in “Closing the system” on page 5.

Reconnect the power cord and turn on the system.
Installing a VRM
Each processor requires two VRMs to control power to the processor core
and the integrated second-level cache respectively. The VRMs for cache
power can support the cache on two processors. For more information on
VRMs see the table Processors and Associated VRMs, on page 39.
1. Open the system, as described in “Opening the system” on page 2, and
locate the VRM socket on the system board.
2. Remove the new VRM from its packaging.
3. Hold the new VRM over the VRM socket and verify that the pins on
both VRM and socket are aligned.
To Install a VRM
Note:
Both the VRM and the
socket are keyed to prevent
improper connection.
