6.8 NOZZLES
The nozzles are extremely important for correct distri
-
bution of the product on vegetation or on the soil to be
treated. Poor quality or worn nozzles do not ensure treat
-
ment consistency.
6.8.1 TYPE OF NOZZLES
Nozzles are produced in various types, divided by specific
features of operation:
• Precise pressure range.
•
Droplet size and shape.
• Spraying geometries and angles.
•
High penetration surface cover nozzles.
• Anti-drift or atomising.
The main types of nozzles are listed below.
6.8.1.1 NORMAL VOLUME CONE NOZZLES
(OVER 300 L/HA)
Generally made in ceramic, they consist of various pieces.
The actual nozzle, the stainless steel centrifuge and a set
of seals. Especially wear-resistant, they are designed to
also work at high pressure (25-45 bar) producing medium-
sized droplets that have marked turbulence. This turbu
-
lence makes them suited to penetrating into even lush
foliage, therefore suited for fungicides and insecticides.
There are various sizes and the flow rates are available at
the table at page 131.
6.8.1.2 LOW VOLUME CONE NOZZLES (FROM 50
TO 150-300 L/HA)
Made in two ceramic pieces with plastic inserts in colour
key. Various colour coded sizes are available (see table
47 page 131).
They are specifically designed to achieve even at low
pressure (2-3 bar) a significant amount of small-sized
droplets having marked turbulence. This turbulence
makes them suited to penetrating into even lush foliage,
therefore suited for fungicides and insecticides. The noz
-
zles of the TR Lechler and TXA Teejet series belong to
this category.
