7.5 USE OF THE MIXER AND PREPARING
THE MIXTURE
Using the pre-mixer calls for handling Agropharmaceuti-
cals potentially hazardous for man and environment; it is
mandatory to wear suitable Personal Protection Equip-
ment such as:
Rubber or latex gloves, goggles or visors, tyvek overalls,
rubber booties, any active carbon masks.
In order to use the pre-mixer, the machine on which it is
applied must be started to be able to use the pressure
from the pump.
7.5.1 PREPARING THE MIXTURE
ATTENTION
Properly prepare the mixture to be distributed in order
to guarantee correct treatment.
Preparing the mixture is the most delicate phase with
regards to operator's proximity to the undiluted chemical
product. It is mandatory to wear all the required PPE: acid
resistant rubber gloves, goggles/masks or purifying hel-
mets, overalls made of Tyvek or water-repellent fabrics,
rubber boots or similar.
Procedure for mixture preparation:
• Check the true dimensions (hectares) of the area to
be treated.
•
Define the volume of the mixture to be distributed by
referring to the table of the used product and to the
dimensions of the field, or number of plants to be
treated.
• Add the remaining amount of water in a precise way
using the machine's sight glass correctly. Although it
detects centrally, precision is improved if the machine
is placed level in all directions.
It is recommended to insert directly in the tank's hatch
water-soluble sachets only. All other physical forms of
phytotherapeutic products available on the market can be
added directly from the ground with the aid of the pre-
mixer.
Where the pre-mixer is not present it is recommended to:
• Add to the tank at least 1/3 of the water needed for
the treatment.
• Pour the pre-emptively measured formulations directly
in the tank.
The subsequent mix of the active ingredient with water
inside the tank can be made by using:
• Suitable stirrers before and during the treatment.
•
The pump flow and the bored tube on the bottom of
the tank.
The remaining part of water can be added during the mix-
ing phase.
We recommend washing the used phytochemical contain-
ers carefully and repeatedly. Dispose of the empty con-
tainers properly.
ATTENTION
Proper mixing and agitation are essential to guaran-
tee correct distribution on the crop. Improper mixing,
especially of suspended wet powders, can facilitate
the distribution of non-homogeneous mixtures caus-
ing damage due to overdosing or underdosing.
Choose a flat levelled area and equip it in order to be able
to stop any uncontrolled mixture flow or spillage.
Whether it is stationary or movable, such an area must
be provided with the equipment required to carry out the
operations, as indicated in the procedures regarding the
preparation of product mixtures to be sprayed, as well as
in the cleaning procedures of the operator, in the event of
contamination.
If product storage and warehousing is “stationary”, it will
have to be properly ventilated, with a door with padlock,
inaccessible to children and hazard signalling table.
In the event of "movable" storage, the remaining pack-
ages, either half-full or empty, must be kept away from the
reach of children in the absence of the operator and must
be fastened to prevent them from falling, breaking, or ac-
cidentally overturning during handling.
Pesticides must be stored in their original packaging with
relative labels.
Moreover, these places must be provided with equipment
required to measure and use:
1) The amount of water poured in the supply tank.
2) The amount of pesticides to be poured in the supply
tank.
