System and Troubleshooting
3.1 View Channel Output Display
The Messenger includes a feature that allows the user to display the primary
measurement values (in mV) of the system directly on the screen. The “View
Channel Output” option in the “Diagnostics menu” will display the Channels
signals i.e. the direct beam value, scatter beam or other signal connected. The
scatter beam and direct beam values are the amount of light being received by
each of the direct and scatter beam detectors respectively. Forward scatter
turbidity is defined as the ratio of the amount of light scattered at 12
o
to incident
divided by the amount of light making it directly across the optical gap. As more
suspended solids or oil droplets are present, more light is scattered and less is
transmitted, making the ratio of these two become larger. The ratio value is
determined by dividing the scattered beam by the direct beam. This is the same
value that is recorded in the Sampled column of the View/Edit calibration Data
screen.
