10.9 System
Data encryption for stored user data is only available with ETERNUS CS800 Scale
models.
Encrypting data as it is being written to the drive prevents information leakage caused by
fraudulent decoding. Even if a drive is removed and stolen by malicious third parties, data
cannot be decoded. The encryption function only encrypts the data stored on the drives, so
server access results in the transmission of plain text. Therefore, this function prevents
data leakage from drives that are physically removed, but does not prevent data leakage
from server access.
To access the Storage Encryption page, on the Security page, click the Storage tab (see
Figure
"Storage Encryption page" on page 330
).
Figure 234: Storage Encryption page
Use the Storage Encryption page to perform the following tasks:
l
Enable Storage Encryption and specify the encryption type (see
).
l
Monitor initial storage encryption process (see
"Monitor Initial Encryption" on page
).
Enable Storage Encryption
To enable the Storage Encryption:
1. Select a encryption type "AES" or "Fujitsu" from the pull down list
l
AES
: Advanced Encryption Standard (AES: Standard encryption used for
information processing by the US federal government)" is a standardized
encryption method. The ETERNUS CS800 adopt the AES 128-bit encryption.
l
Fujitsu
: "Fujitsu" is an encryption method which uses a Fujitsu proprietary
algorithm. Compared to AES, its practical security level is almost equal while it
allows faster processing than AES.
2. Click
