TEST APPLICATIONS
This section contains information on typical test setups to perform some of the more common radio tests
using the R8100 Series Communications System Analyzer. Freedom Communication Technologies takes
no responsibility for application accuracy, applicability, or safety. Always refer to your own transceiver's
service manual for recommended test methods and specifications.
4.1
FM Transmitter Testing
The R8100 has extensive capability for evaluating the performance of FM transmitters. However, detailed
instructions for the wide variety of transmitter types are outside the scope of this manual. This section
will outline basic FM transmitter testing and focus on fundamental items of importance such as transmit
power, carrier frequency, and voice quality measurements.
4.1.1
Basic FM Transmitter Testing – initial setup
Refer to Figure 5.1.1-1. Connect the analyzer's RF I/O port to the RF output of the transmitter under test.
Connect the analyzer's Mod In/Out jack to the microphone audio input of the transmitter under test.
Access to the microphone input is often provided through a special interface connector on the radio used
for testing purposes. Refer to your radio’s service manual.
Caution:
For transmit power output measurements connect the transmitter under test only to the
analyzer's RF I/O port.
Do not connect it to the ANTENNA port
. The ANTENNA port is used for low
level signals or those captured with an antenna during "Off-The -Air" reception.
