Connectrix EC-1100 System User Guide
Upgrading to a Single Service Processor Environment
Overview
This appendix describes specific procedures to consolidate service
processors by configuring a customer-selected service processor as a
Connectrix Manager server to manage all ED-1032s in the
multiswitch fabric, and configuring the remaining service processors
as both clients and backups.
Procedural Notes
When performing these instructions to upgrade ED-1032s and form a
multiswitch fabric, be aware of the implications associated with
Internet protocol (IP) address assignments.
CAUTION
!
Follow all procedural information carefully and sequentially.
IP Address
Assignment
When forming a multiswitch fabric, all ED-1032s and service
processors participating in the fabric must have unique IP addresses.
All IP addresses are structured to represent a Connectrix cabinet
location and product type. The IP address format is 010.rrr.ppp.xxx,
where:
•
rrr
is the Connectrix cabinet number (001, 002, 003, or 004).
Cabinet 001 contains the service processor (where multiple
service processors are not consolidated), and the remaining
cabinets are expansion cabinets.
•
ppp
is the product type (001 for the service processor and 005 for
an ED-1032).
•
xxx
is the cabinet position (001 for the service processor, 001 for
the lower ED-1032, and 002 for the upper ED-1032).
For example, the IP addresses of components in two Connectrix
cabinets with consolidated service processors are as follows:
Cabinet
Component
IP Address
One
Connectrix Manager server
010.001.001.001
Lower ED-1032
010.001.005.001
Upper ED-1032
010.001.005.002
