Merging Fabrics — Results for Zone Configurations
If merging zones will result in segmented E_Ports and the fabrics will
not join, you can join the fabrics by deactivating the active zone set on
one of the fabrics (default zone is enabled). This eliminates any
conflicts because the fabrics will then join using only the active zone
set. After the fabrics join, you can them make adjustments on zoning
configurations as you desire.
If two fabrics successfully join, the new active zone set is in the fabric
but is not in the zoning library of the service processor. To move the
new active zone set to the zoning library, use the Save Active Zone
Set
command on the Zoning View. This save must be done prior to
any editing of the new zone set.

Fabric A Fabric B Result
Not zoned Not zoned Fabrics join successfully. The zoning
configuration in the new fabric remains not
zoned.
Not zoned Zoned Fabrics join successfully. Fabric A inherits
zoning configuration from fabric B.
Zoned Not zoned Fabrics join successfully. Fabric B inherits
zoning configuration from fabric A.
Zoned Zoned Fabrics join only if the zone
configurations can merge. Otherwise
E_Ports on each director become
segmented and fabrics remain separate.
Zoning configurations can merge if the
active zone set name is the same in each
fabric and zones with the same name in
each fabric have identical members.
