Primary Weld Method
is the next Process Setup submenu.
The weld method defines when the ultrasound signal is
terminated after it has been triggered
.
Select from four choices:
Distance
-
The system welds until the press travels
the user-specified distance from the trigger point.
A user-specified maximum time prevents infinite
welding due to an unreachable distance.
Position
-
The system welds until the press
travels to the position measured from the reference
mark (zero position) of the distance encoder. A user
specified maximum time prevents infinite welding due
to an unreachable position.
Energy
-
The system welds until the generator
delivers a specified level of energy to the transducer
while the horn is in contact with the part. A user-
specified maximum time prevents infinite welding due
to an unreachable energy level.
Energy, measured in joules, has a range of 0 to
100000.0, and has a 0.1 joule resolution.
Peak Power
-
The system welds until the generator
delivers a specified level of power to the transducer.
A user-specified maximum time prevents infinite
welding due to an unreachable power level.
Peak Power, measured in Watts, has a 0.1 Watt
resolution.
Peak Power range is dependent on the generator's maxi-
mum output power rating.

Secondary Weld Method
Secondary Weld Method
is the next item to consider
in the Process Setup menu.
The secondary weld method defines an alternative
control to terminate the ultrasound signal after it has
been triggered.
The feature may be disabled or there are three weld
methods from which to choose: Position, Energy, and
Peak Power.

Downstroke Distance
=
Distance the horn
travels until the ultrasound trigger point is
reached.
Weld Distance = Distance the horn moves
during the application of ultrasound to cre-
ate the weld.
Hold Distance = Distance the horn moves
during the hold or “cooling” portion of the
weld cycle.
