Test according to EN 50176
Exemplary test assembly according to EN 50 176
The electrode spacing in the starting position must be at least 0.5cm/kV. At maximum allowed
output voltage of 80kV, this means 40cm.
The approach speed between the high voltage leading spray member and the grounded test
electrode must be at least 1.2 times the maximum coating speed, but at least 500mm/s
The two electrodes have to be approximated to be an electrode spacing of about 1cm.
The test shall be performed five times per spray. In all cases, a safe shut down before the first
discharge must take place. After shut down, no discharge between the electrodes may be
made.
Comment: For the purpose of this testing requirement, a discharge is a visible and audible
flashover between the electrodes.
