Non-Invasive Blood Pressure
Blood pressure measurements determined with this device are equivalent to those obtained by a trained
observer using the cuff/auscultation method, within the limits prescribed by the American National Standard,
Electronic or automated sphygmomanometers.
The IDM100 Medical Tablet measures the systolic blood pressure (mmHg), diastolic blood pressure (mmHg),
pulse (bpm), MAP (mean arterial pressure
– a calculated reading that yields an approximate value in mmHg),
as well as max cuff pressure (maximum pressure during measurement).
The Non-Invasive Blood Pressure (NIBP) component offers 3 types of blood pressure measurement
categories, divided by patient population. These patient groups are formally defined as neonate (up to 28 days
old), pediatric (29 days to 12 years old) and adult (13 years and older). The device automatically selects the
category based on the age and weight of the patient, however, the setting can be changed manually, if
necessary.
Using the correct size cuff is one of the most important factors in obtaining reliable and accurate blood
pressure measurements. For the guidance provided here, it is assumed that the end user has chosen the
correct size cuff and it is properly applied to the patient. Below is a decision tree providing a method for
selecting the appropriate blood pressure measurement patient mode using body weight as the primary
decision factor. Body composition varies widely with age, especially among neonates and infants, thus weight
is a better threshold when choosing patient modes.
