8.9 Replacing and Upgrading the Blood Pump
Heed the instructions for use on EXCOR sterile components!
Before switching to a different blood pump size, check whether a differ-
ent flow sensor will be required. Information on which sensors can be
used with which pumps and cannulae is available here: Tab. 5-1 ,
page 44. Contact the hotline regarding any questions.
Each time after replacing a blood pump, check that the new blood pump
is filling and emptying completely. Adjust parameters if necessary.
Replacement of the blood pump is only described here in terms of the work steps to
be performed on the driving unit and panel PC.
8.9.1 Replacing Blood Pumps - BVAD Left, LVAD, RVAD
1. Initial state: The system is in A
UTO
operation. The panel PC is connected to
the driving unit. A sterile environment has been prepared. The blood pump
has been prepared. The necessary materials are ready for use.
2. Log in with the E
XPERT
user profile.
3. Remove the cable wrap.
4. Remove the flow sensor from the cannula. If alarms are emitted with regard to
flow or a flow sensor not being connected, press
A
UDIO PAUSED
. After one
blood pump has been paused, audible alarms will no longer be emitted for as
long as the blood pump is paused.
5. Call up the S
TART
/ S
TOP
blood pump view.
6. In BVAD operating mode, stop both blood pumps; in LVAD or RVAD mode,
stop the corresponding blood pump.
7. Replace the blood pump. See EXCOR Sterile Components instructions for
use.
8. Perform de-airing in single step mode. Check that the system is completely
de-aired. Do not start the blood pump until the system has been completely
de-aired. Check that connections are air-tight.
