Preparation for Monitoring Resp
8.3.1
Preparing the Patient’s Skin
Follow this procedure to prepare the patient’s skin:
1.
Shave the chest hair from the electrode sites in a circular area with a diameter of 2
to 4 inches.
2.
Use a dry gauze pad to remove excess skin oils, skin cells and residue from the
electrode sites. Never rub the skin until it is raw or bleeding.

Positioning the Electrodes
As the Respiration measurement adopts the standard ECG electrode placement, you can
use different ECG cables. Since the respiration signal is measured between two ECG elec-
trodes, if a standard ECG electrode placement is applied, the two electrodes should be
RA and LL of ECG Lead II.

NOTE
•
Proper skin preparation is necessary for good signal quality at the elec-
trode site, as the skin is a poor conductor of electricity.
