12.2.5.1 Measurement Limitations
ƾ
Since the arrhythmia detection algorithm sensitivity and specificity is less than
100%, sometimes there may be some false arrhythmias detected and also some
true arrhythmia events may not be detected. This is especially true when the
signal is noisy.
ƾ The ECG size and QRS width settings affect arrhythmia detection and heart rate
calculation sensitivity.
ƾ
If QRS amplitude is low, the monitor might not be able to calculate HR and false
asystole may occur.
ƾ
At the algorithm learning phase, arrhythmia detection may not be available.
Therefore, closely monitor the patient’s condition during the learning phase after
the learning phase to allow the algorithm to reach optimal detection
performance.
12.2.5.2 Understanding the Arrhythmia Events
Arrhythmia message Description Category
Asystole No QRS detected within the set time threshold in absence of ven-
tricular fibrillation or chaotic signal. Lethal
arrhythmia
V-Fib/V-Tach A fibrillatory wave for 6 consecutive seconds.
A dominant rhythm of adjacent Vs and a HR > the V-Tach HR limit.
V-Tach The consecutive PVCs ≥ V-Tach PVCs limit, and the HR ≥ the V-Tach
Rate limit.
Vent Brady The consecutive PVCs ≥ the V-Brady threshold and the ventricular
HR < the V-Brady Rate threshold.
Extreme Tachy The heart rate is equal to or greater than the extreme tachycardia
limit.
Extreme Brady The heart rate is equal to or less than the extreme bradycardia limit.
