FF/HSEmodule FI 840F
The FI 840F module is a high-speed Ethernet fieldbus module (FF/HSE) allowing for
quick data exchange. It is designed for manufacturing applications with local
peripheral units.
The FF/HSE module FI 840F is a Fieldbus-Foundation®-(FF)-Master. In conjunction
with the Control Builder F the most different Fieldbus Foundation® nodes can be
projected and configured.
7.5.1
Concept
The FF/HSE module FI 840F is designed for connecting the
AC 800F to the FF/HSE. It can be plugged in any of the four fieldbus
slots F1 ... F4 and is intended to be used for applications where high
transmission rates are either required or may become necessary for
future extensions. An FF/HSE link is always a point-to-point
connection. As a result, network switches and network hubs are
required for networks with more than two nodes.
Switch and hub networks are a commonly used technology. Many
vendors offer such switches and hubs. Due to its well-known and
widespread RJ45 connector any off-the-shelf switch or hub can
be connected to the FF/HSE module FI 840F.
If the chosen switch or hub permits connection to another Ethernet
network like 10Base2, AUI or FO, this opens up any other Ethernet
medium to you. The adaptation to the max. possible transmission
rate (10 Mbit/s or 100 Mbit/s) is done automatically.
Please contact you local ABB customer service center for
recommendations related to switches and hubs and proposals for
the appropriate FF/HSE network. The FF/HSE module FI 840F is
electrically isolated and has an overvoltage protection circuit.
An ARM CPU with integrated Ethernet controller is the heart of the FF/HSE module.
For high data rates the protocol handling should be realized directly on the Ethernet
module, to reduce the load of the main processor. The shared memory of the FF/HSE
module provides for proper data exchange between the FF/HSE module and the main
processor. The synchronization with the main processor is achieved by using the
appropriate interrupt requests.
