Functional Description of the Fieldbus Modules
7.1
General
In this manual, the name fieldbus refers to all kinds of standardized bus systems
used in the field of process automation. The AC 800F is designed for accommodating
four fieldbus modules. Fieldbuses complying with different standards and regulations
or provided by different manufactures like Profibus-DP and process station bus can
be used on the same AC 800F. As a result, it is possible to perform command and
control tasks without the need to stick to the same technology.
The four fieldbus slots in the AC 800F are identical. Every module can be plugged in
any of the four slots, according to your needs

.
When using the power supply module SA 801F or SD 802F together
with the CPU board PM 803F, a maximum of 3 Profibus modules
FI 830F can be supported.
Use the power supply module SA 811F or SD 812F with software version
7.1 and higher for running a maximum of 4 Profibus modules FI 830F.
Every fieldbus module consists of:
•
a simple controller which only converts the parallel data flow from the AC 800F to
fit in the serial structure of the fieldbus; in this case, the fieldbus protocol software
is handled by the AC 800F.
•
a stand-alone processor system which only provides for data exchange with the
AC 800F via a dual port or shared memory.

At present, the CAN module FI 810F can only be used in slot F1, due to software limitations.
