Token Ring Configuration
This section describes the configuration rules for token rings operating
within an MSH chassis.
Maximum Number of Local Ring Sections
A local ring section consists of a RingBuilder and the MAUs which share
the same ring section number. A maximum of five separate local ring
sections can operate within an MSH chassis.
Ring Selection
In the absence of a management module installed in the chassis,
switches on the MSH token ring modules specify which modules will
be assembled into a local ring section by the RingBuilder. When a
management module is present, this configuration can be overruled
through management command, for example VT100 management (see
Changing the Local Ring Section Number
Position Dependence
While all slots in the chassis are equal there are some important points
to be aware of with regard to the position of modules within the
chassis.
The RingBuilders are totally position independent, their configurations
are set either by switches or through management commands (see
The MAUs are position independent. However their location in the
chassis with relation to one another will affect their position within the

Station Location on a Local Ring Section
Each local ring section requires a RingBuilder to configure the MSH
token ring modules within the ring. For modules configured to the
same ring, frames travel from the RingBuilder to the module installed in
