Effect on RMON Statistics of MSH Configuration Changes.
Each configuration change will effect the RMON statistics in some way.
The nature of the effect will d
e
pend on the exact configuration change.
Inserting a Smart Module
Modules clear all local RMON statistics when they are inserted. If the
module is the first on a backplane or is isolated, a set of default RMON
sessions will be created. Adding the module to an existing backplane
group incorporates the module into the current RMON sessions.
Removing a Smart Module
If the module is the only remaining one on a backplane or is isolated,
the associated RMON sessions are deleted. Otherwise, the effect is a
sudden
decrease
in the RMON statistics caused by removing one data
source from the backplane group.
Switching a Smart Module to Another Backplane
The effect is the combination of the two above. Statistics for both
backplane groups will change abruptly.
Switching a Management Module to Another Backplane
The effect is the same as above. Statistics for both backplane groups
will change abruptly.
Some management applications cope with the changes better than
others. If your application is adversely effected, r
estart
ing will remove
the problems, but all earlier RMON data will be lost. Consult your
application manual for details of how to restart the application.
