Facility Table
This subject was introduced in
“Switching Services on the Backplane”
on
.
Ethernet Movements
Transferring modules to different Ethernets, or isolating modules from
the backplane means that some ports cease to belong to a particular
repeater, and become part of a new repeater. For MSH modules, this
will not affect the value of the counters, nor the setup of the alarms on
the transferred ports.
You can transfer ECS modules, including all the repeater modules,
bridges and terminal servers, with the management module. However,
you will only get the full statistics if your ECS modules and the
management module are connected to Ethernet bus 1.
Particular care is necessary when transferring modules to other
Ethernets. If there is a connection outside the MSH chassis between two
backplanes, transferring a module from one backplane to the other
can
c
reate a loop. The network will cease to function.
The Facility Table VT100 screen identifies the backplane bus number(s)
and the facility(s) being used. Most modules can be connected to one
bus at a time, but bridges may be to more than one. You may change a
backplane bus through the ‘Switch to ...’ field (see below).
