Chapter 6 – Using DiProPAC Die Protection (Optional)

Bypass Angle (Static Sensors)

Sometimes it is useful to use a Bypass Angle to prevent nuisance stops, for example, when using a
proximity sensor to monitor material buckle. When the material is near the sensor (not buckled), the
sensor is ON, and it is set up as a Red sensor. However, sometimes when the die opens, the material
jumps off the sensor enough to cause a nuisance stop.

In such cases, you can program the optional Bypass Angle for Yellow and Red sensors. During the
bypass, SmartPAC PRO ignores the sensor, so any fault during that window will not cause a nuisance
stop. During the rest of the stroke, SmartPAC PRO monitors the sensor normally.

To set the Bypass Angle, follow these steps:

1.

In the Sensor Program Screen, Figure 6-11, press the ADD button for BYPASS ANGLE. The
Bypass Angle screen appears.

2.

Use one of these ways to set the bypass angle (the portion of the stroke when the sensor is
ignored):

•

the plus (+) and minus (–) buttons on the screen

•

SET ON ANGLE and SET OFF ANGLE buttons. Press SET ON ANGLE and key in the ON
angle on the keypad that appears. Press Enter. Press SET OFF ANGLE and key in the OFF
angle on the keypad that appears. Press Enter.
