8.4.2
Cleaning the Transducer
1. Make the transducer radiation surface accessible.
2. Carefully remove fouling from the transducer radiation surface using suitable clean-
ing aids.
2.1.
Carefully remove coarse fouling using a plastic spatula. Move the spatula at
an oblique angle over the transducer radiation surface in order not to cause
scores.
2.2.
Carefully remove the remaining fouling using a suitable cleaning tool (e.g.
sponge, brush). Clean the surface in a circular motion and do not apply more
pressure than necessary.
3. Inspect the transducer radiation surface visually for damage after cleaning.

The possible fouling (e.g. algae, crustaceans, mussels, barnacles) depends on the type
of ship, operational intensity and the channel travelled and varies with fresh and salt wa-
ter, according to the lay and travel times, water temperature and solar irradiation.
NOTICE
Damage to the transducer possible!
The surface of the transducer is delicate and can be easily damaged.
Do not use high-pressure or steam cleaners, metallic objects or solvent-based
cleaning additives for cleaning.
