NOTE: RFC 2544 tests must be performed on a loopback basis, and all testing is
typically performed on the MPA at the near end.
MPA
– Network without Routers – Loopback
•
In networks that do not have routers, it may be possible to use a simple
loopback on the equipment.
MPA
– Network with Routers – MPA in IP Reflection mode
•
In networks with routers, a second MPA in IP Reflection mode can be
used as a loopback device.

Configure the far-end MPA unit's Reflect setting for Digital Lightwave
Packets Only.
•
In IP Reflection mode, the MPA reverses MAC and IP addresses and
loops back the RFC test packets.
How to Configure and perform RFC2544 Testing
Note : The RFC tests are performed over the selected test Stream. The RFC tests
will over-ride the test Stream's bandwidth rate, frame size and burst size parameters.
However other parameters such as MAC addresses, IP addresses, UPD addresses and
VLAN/MPLS settings are not over-written, and should be configured prior to beginning
the RFC test.
Before starting the actual RFC test, it is important to test your loopback to ensure
that the Packets being generated are also being received without any errors or lost
packets.
To configure the test Stream:
1. Press Config , then Strms Pg 1 or Strms Pg 2 .
2. Select one of the streams by pressing the stream's row in the white area (See
figure).
