Anaerobic System 3-3
Thermo Scientific
Section 3
Maintenance
Both of the wafers will need to be heated in a standard laboratory oven to
regenerate them. Both wafers can be heated at the same time.
Heat the Palladium catalyst wafer weekly, or more frequently depending
on use and the condition of the anaerobic indicator. Heat the wafer at
160°C for two hours. Allow the wafer to cool to room temperature before
returning it to the cabinet or a sealed storage container.
Heat the desiccant wafer when it begins to turn a definite pink color. You
can look through the mesh and see the discoloration if it is present. Heat
the wafer at 160° C for two hours, and allow the wafer to cool to room
temperature before returning it to the cabinet or a sealed storage container.
Note
If excessive humidity is present in the chamber, two desiccant wafers
may be used in the cabinet.
s
For maximum protection against H
2
S, the charcoal activated filter should
be replaced every three months.
• Leak-check all serrated fittings and connections (including the
regulators) from the gas supply cylinders to the cabinet. Use a
commercially available gas leak detector or a soapy water solution.
• Inspect gloves, sleeves, glove/sleeve connection, and vinyl front for any
possible leaks. Before installing the gloves, leak-check them by filling
them with water and watching for leaks. Turn them inside out to dry.
Small holes in the vinyl front may be repaired with the clear plastic
tape provided with the unit. The patch should be made on the inside.
• Keep both doors closed and secured unless making a product entry.
• Be conservative in the number of entries. Hold individual specimens
(unless stat condition exists) in a gassing jar, and make a group entry.
• To reduce interchange size, place one or two Gas Pak™ jars (with lids
tightly secured) in the interchange when reducing. This substantially
reduces the volume of gas replaced during the evacuation replacement
cycles.
• For overnight/no entry conditions, increase the pressure in the glove
chamber slightly, using the Manual Fill valve. Turn the Manual Fill
valve OFF, then turn the gassing system switch OFF. This procedure
should be used only when ultra-conservative gas consumption is
desired.
