The purpose of this procedure is to remove all atmospheric gas, particularly
oxygen, from the work chamber and replace it with a special anaerobic gas
mixture.
Caution
Start-up takes three to four hours. Do not leave the system during
this procedure.

1. Connect the N
2
gas supply to the anaerobic (special) gas connection at
the back of the unit.
Note
Do not connect the anaerobic gas at this time.
s
2. Turn on the N
2
supply at the source, adjust the low stage pressure to
10-15 PSIG and check all the connections for leaks.
3. Close and secure the outer door.
4. Open the inner door.
5. Open the incubator doors.
6. Turn the Vacuum, Nitrogen and Equalize switches to the Auto
position and turn the Gas System switch On.
7. Turn the Manual Fill knob fully counterclockwise. Do not overturn.
8. Push the Start button to cause the vacuum system to evacuate the
atmospheric gas. It automatically shuts off and the work chamber fills
with nitrogen.
9. When the chamber relief bubbler bubbles, push the Start button again.
10. Repeat Step 9 a total of twenty times.
11. Turn the Manual Fill knob OFF when the procedure is completed.
12. Turn the nitrogen OFF at the source.
13. Remove the N
2
from the special gas compression fitting, and connect it
to the N
2
fitting.
14. Connect the special gas to the appropriate fitting on the back of the
unit. Refer to Figure 1-2.
