CHAPTER 11: OPERATING MALFUNCTIONS
1. COMMUNICATION FAILURES
In the event of a failure to connect, the fax machine will notify you of another re-dial attempt at a later time.
Example of what is displayed:
FRI 11 SEP 20:13
0142685014 20:18
FOR TRANSMISSIONS FROM THE FEEDER
You may either:
-
wait for the fax machine to try again at the time indicated,
-
attempt to retransmit the document immediately by pressing FAX/COPY provided the document is still in
the feeder,
-
or cancel transmission by pressing STOP. To eject the document, press STOP again.
FOR TRANSMISSIONS FROM MEMORY
You may either:
-
wait for the fax machine to try again at the time indicated,
-
attempt to retransmit the document immediately by modifying the queue(see the Immediate execution of
a pending job paragraph in the ADVANCED COMMUNICATION FUNCTIONS chapter). If the
document consists of several pages, transmission will resume from the first page which failed to go
through,
-
or cancel transmission by deleting the job entry from the queue (see the Deleting a job from the queue
section in the ADVANCED COMMUNICATION FUNCTIONS chapter).
The fax machine will attempt to re-dial the number up to 5 times.
CONNECTION ERROR CODES PRINTED IN THE TRANSMISSION REPORTS AND LOGS
Code 01 - Busy or no fax answer
This code is displayed after 6 unsuccessful attempts to connect. Try sending later.
Code 02 - Burnt number
A number is said to be “bad” when 6 attempts to dial it have failed. The fax machine will not allow any further calls
to that number. In order to be able to use the number again, you have to re-initialise it by viewing its record in the
directory.
Code 03 - User break
Transmission was aborted by the user by pressing STOP.
Code 04 - Non programmed number
Invalid quick-dial or one-touch dialling number: check the number. For example: a scheduled transmission has
been programmed using a one-touch dialling key which has been eliminated in the meantime.
Code 05 - Scanning error
An error has occurred in the scanning assembly, e.g. a paper jam.
Code 06 - Printer default
An error has occurred in the unit’s printer: it may be out of paper, or there could be a paper jam, or an open cover.
This error will only occur while receiving an incoming fax if the PAPERLESS RECEPTION parameter is set to
NO.
Code 07 - Disconnected
The line was cut off (poor line conditions). Check the fax number too.
Code 08 - Quality
The document you were sending was not received properly: contact the subscriber to find out whether you need
to re-send the document. The error may have occurred in a part of the document that isn’t vital.
Code 0A - No document to be polled
You tried to retrieve a document from a remote fax but there was no document ready for polling (no fax on demand)
on the latter or you entered the wrong access code.
Code 0B - Wrong number of pages
There is a discrepancy between the number of pages specified by the user while setting up the transmission and
the number of pages actually sent: check the number of pages in the document.
Code 0C - Received document error
Ask the senders to check the length of their document (it might be too long to receive in one go).
Code 0D - Received document error
Ask the sender to re-transmit the document.
