4. RECEIVING FAXES AND E-MAILS
Faxes and e-mails sent to your Internet mailbox are automatically retrieved whenever the fax machine accesses
the Internet (see the Overview section).
An incoming e-mail can have an attachment which is either:
-
a fax file (sent by an Internet fax), or
-
a non-fax file (word processor file, CAD file, etc.).
If the attachment is not a fax file (e.g. it is a word processor file, or a CAD file), your fax machine will recognise
it as a document which cannot be handled. It prints out a notification to let you know that it could not open the file,
and automatically sends the issuer a “COULD NOT PROCESS MESSAGE” notification.
Note:
Accents may be missing on e-mail documents.
5. SETTINGS
There are two types of settings on your fax machine:
-
Common settings (type of connection and transmission).
-
Precision settings (technical parameters).
COMMON SETTINGS
These define in what way and how often you connect to the access provider.
Press MENU followed by 9 and 4; the various categories of settings available are displayed (CONNECT.
TYPE - SENDING TYPE - SET TIMES - PERIOD).
Select the category you want to configure.
CONNECTION TYPE (MENU 9, 4, 1)
Allows you to specify how often your fax machine should connect to the Internet to retrieve all the Internet faxes
and e-mails from your electronic mailbox.
AT SET TIMES:
The fax machine automatically connects to the Internet every day at 9:00, 12:30 and 17:00 (default values). It is
of course possible to alter these times, and even cancel a programmed Internet access time.
Note:
The unit will in fact automatically connect to the Internet up to 12 minutes before or after the programmed
time, to avoid a flood of Internet accesses resulting in the simultaneous sending of several pending documents,
which would saturate the network.
Move the cursor to the time to be cancelled using the
and
keys.
Press the # key to cancel the time.
Press OK to confirm.
AT REGULAR INTERVALS
The fax machine automatically connects to the Internet every 3 hours (default value).
It is possible to alter the interval between connections by keying in a new value and pressing OK to confirm (the
interval must be comprised between 00:01 and 23:59).
Note:
The unit will in fact automatically connect to the Internet up to 12 minutes before or after the programmed
time, to avoid a flood of Internet accesses resulting in the simultaneous sending of several pending documents,
which would saturate the network.
ON REQUEST
The fax machine will only access the Internet when you instruct it to do so by pressing MENU followed by 9 and
3 (IMMED. ACCESS) or by pressing the MENU key followed by the INTERNET key.
Note:
The “Internet time slot” and “Internet active” parameters (see below) enable you to define whether the unit
should connect automatically to the Internet at night-time and during weekends (the default time slot is
06:00 - 22:00 on working days).
TRANSMISSION TYPE (MENU, 9, 4, 2)
If you select IMMEDIATE, a fax transmission over the Internet will be initiated immediately (and the unit will
in the process retrieve any Internet faxes and e-mails from your electronic mailbox).
If you select DURING CONNECTIONS, Internet faxes will only be sent during the automatic connection sessions
(whether periodic or set time), resulting in additional savings on call costs.
