CHAPTER 8: SENDING / RECEIVING FAXES OVER THE
INTERNET
1. OVERVIEW
-
To send a fax over the Internet, you place a fax file in your subscriber’s Internet (e-mail) mailbox.
-
To receive a fax over the Internet, you retrieve a fax file from your own Internet (e-mail) mailbox.
Both these operations are carried out during the same on-line session via an Internet access provider.
Both you and your contact must possess an Internet (e-mail) account.
A faxing session over the Internet takes place as follows:
1. All pending faxes destined for the Internet and stored in the fax machine’s memory are sent out (the
machine’s memory is emptied).
2. All faxes and e-mails sent to your personal Internet mailbox are retrieved and stored in the fax machine’s
memory
Note:
The fax proper is sent as an e-mail attachment.
Depending on the configuration of your fax machine, the process of sending and retrieving faxes over the Internet
may be activated in either of three ways:
1. Three times a day at set times (default setting: 9:00, 12:30 and 17:00): the Internet fax session is
automatically activated at these times.
2. At regular intervals (default setting: every 3 hours): every (n) hours.
Note:
The unit will in fact automatically connect to the Internet (cases 1 and 2) up to 12 minutes before or after the
programmed time, to avoid a flood of Internet accesses resulting in the simultaneous sending of several
pending documents, which would saturate the network.
3. Manually, by pressing MENU followed by 9 and 3 (INTERNET, IMMEDIATE ACCESS) or by pressing
the MENU key followed by the INTERNET key.
You may also program your fax machine’s Internet parameters (see the Settings section) in order to:
-
configure the machine to match the parameters of the access provider with whom you have an e-mail
account.
-
fine-tune the connection parameters (connection time slot; speed of the data transmission).
