Checking for leaks
Checking for leaks
After every maintenance task which has to do with the flame ionization detector (FID) or the
gas path, you must check for leaks in the device. Proceed as follows:
FID
1.
Connect the gas output to a relative pressure manometer (0 to 1 hPa, resolution
0.1 hPa).
2.
Open the sample gas valve. For approximately one minute, open the valve until there is
an overpressure of approx. 950 hPa and then close the valve again.
3.
Wait approximately 10 minutes until pressure has equalized. Then write down the
pressure.
4.
Wait another minute, and read off the pressure again.
When the pressure drop within one minute does not exceed 10 ± 2 hPa, the gas path is
sufficiently tight.
Note
During measurement, the gas path must have a constant temperature, including the FID.
Test conditions:
The specified pressures are relative pressures.
Test gas:
synthetic air (sample gas path must not be contaminated)
